Irish health system ranked 13th in Euro league

The Irish health service has moved up two places in an annual league table of the various health systems across Europe.

Ireland is ranked 13th out of 33 countries in the 2009 Euro Health Consumer Index, up from 15th place last year.

The Irish health service was ranked 28th in the league table three years ago.

The rankings are based on a range of criteria, including waiting times, medical outcomes, patient rights and the range of services provided.
