Ireland among worst offenders for wasting resources

A new report has named Ireland among the top 10 countries to blame for draining the resources of other countries.

The WWF report says the Earth's resources are running out, but countries like Ireland are using them up faster than others.

The environmental group has developed an "ecological footprint" which measures humanity's demand on the natural world in terms of the land and sea required to provide it with various resources.

Based on that footprint, Ireland is ranked 10th in a list of countries which rely on the ecological resources of other countries to prop up their lifestyles and economic growth.

The United Arab Emirates is identified as the worst offender, followed by the United States.
