Two investigations are underway after a young boy was killed in a farm accident in Mayo last night.

The boy, understood to be four years old, was reportedly hit by a tractor at about 8.30pm last evening on a farm at Ballinaboy, Belmullet.

He was rushed to Belmullet District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A post mortem will be carried out today at Castlebar Hospital.

The scene has been preserved and the Gardaí and Health and Safety Authority have both launched investigations.
