HSE seeking €254m in emergency funding

The HSE is seeking another €254m in emergency funding from the Government to balance its books.

The Health Minister is due to appear before an Oireachtas committee today to discuss the request, which she is expected to support.

Last year the HSE had to be given an extra €350m.

The need for extra funding is being blamed on the rise in the demand for medical cards as well as the health levy.
