Trade unions have reacted angrily to new HSE plans which could significantly reduce staff numbers in the health service.
The plan proposes to cut 940 full-time jobs.
The number of staff nurses would be reduced by 700, while administration and management jobs would be cut by up to 500.
The HSE also wants to redeploy thousands more workers without any compensation.
The Irish Nurses Organisation says the proposals are unacceptable and would cause huge damage to standards of patient care.
