Higher civil servant union boss refuses to disclose pay

General secretary of the Association of Higher Civil and Public Servants Dave Thomas is refusing to declare how much he is paid, although he has admitted that it is at the top end of the €60-100,000 pay bracket.

Unions officials have come under the spotlight in today's Irish Independent, which found that the general secretary of the Teachers Union of Ireland Peter McMenamin has not taken a pay cut.

It has also been reported that the General Secretary of the TUI is on a salary of somewhere between €131-158,000.

Other union chiefs have refused to comment on their salaries but according to the report, the INTO's Sheila Nunan could be earning up to €153,000 with the basic salary of SIPTU's Jack O'Connor €112,000.
