Here is how much parents spend on 'free' primary education

Parents are donating €46m a year for their children's 'free' primary education.

That is half the money schools need for day-to-day bills.

The funds are raised from a combination of voluntary contributions and fundraising activities.

The figures in the Irish Independent were compiled on behalf of the Catholic Primary School Management Association.
