HEA unveils third-level profiling system

The Higher Education Authority has published a new performance-profiling system for third level institutions.

Under the scheme, each institution has its own "radar" graph which gives an instant view of how they measure up in 14 categories.

It looks at the student-academic staff ratio, drop out rates, PhD numbers, international enrolment and the number of mature students.

"We've published comprehensive profiles of all higher education institutions in Ireland," said lead author, Muiris O’Connor, who is also Head of Policy with the HEA.

"These will help universities an colleges in their own strategic planning, and they'll also provide a new level of transparency in universities and colleges in regard to teaching and research."
