Hanafin approves school building projects and grants reforms

The Government has given the green light to fifteen major school building projects.

Nine primary and six secondary schools are being moved to tender and construction stage.

The Minister for Education has also proposed changes to the college grants system.

Mary Hanafin wants to ensure that students get standard grants delivered on time each academic year.

She has promised that under the new legislation, students will receive their grants about one month into the academic term.

She also said that she will combine the three different grant schemes into one programme and for the first time students will have the right to appeal if they fail to qualify for a grant.
