Govt Chief Whip will accept pay cut

Government Chief Whip Pat Carey has said he will "accept and agree" with whatever cuts the Finance Minister Brian Lenihan makes to the salaries of politicians.

It was reported over the weekend that Government ministers will be forced to take a 15% pay cut, as part of cutbacks contained in Budget 2010.

While the Taoiseach Brian Cowen is expected to take a 20% pay cut, a €60,000 reduction in his salary.

Government Chief Whip Pat Carey said that "it's only right that higher earners pay their fair share".
