Gardaí to be interviewed in du Plantier inquiry

French authorities examining the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier are to request permission to interview a number of gardaí.

Formal hearings into the French woman's death in Cork more than a decade ago will begin in France later this month.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice here said Irish authorities are liaising closely with the inquiry team in France to provide any help possible.

The Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern is awaiting a formal request for permission to interview several Gardaí who were involved in the case.
