Gardaí have seized five puppies during a search of a van at Dublin Port.

Officers stopped a van bound for England at around 9.20am this morning and found five Pomeranian puppies in a cage.

The puppies were seized and handed over to the DSPCA as the driver did not show any valid documentation for them.

The puppies will be quarantined and then placed for adoption.

The van was also seized for having no insurance.
