Gardaí probing fatal M7 crash arrest man

A 23-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí investigating a fatal crash on the M7 last week in which a 43-year-old woman was killed.

The man was arrested this morning and is is currently detained at Kildare Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The fatal incident occurred at about 8.45pm last Thursday on the northbound side of the M7 at junction 13, just outside Kildare town after a high-speed motorway chase involving a garda car.

It is believed officers were tailing a number of men suspected of being involved in a robbery at a house in Co Tipperary earlier in the evening when the crash occurred.

There were five people in the car being chased, one of whom is understood to be a 12-year-old boy.

Diana Harton, of Claregate Court, Co Kildare, died after her car was in collision with at least one other vehicle.

It is believed the woman was moving on to the motorway from the slip road at junction 13 when the crash happened.
