Gardaí searching for the weapon used in the fatal shooting of Roy Collins in Limerick last week recovered a firearm this afternoon.
A Garda spokesperson said that they did not believe, at this stage of the enquiry, that the weapons were used in the shooting, however.
A .22 calibre rifle was discovered on open ground on the south side of the city at around 12.30pm.
Component parts of another firearm - also believed to be a long-barrelled gun - were also found during the search.
It is believed 35-year-old Roy Collins was killed because members of his family gave evidence in the trial of crime figure Wayne Dundon.
