Gardaí investigate three girls in relation to vicious attack on Maynooth student

It is being reported that Gardaí are investigating three girls in connection with the assault of 18-year-old student Kym Owens.

Ms Owens is still in Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown after suffering a broken jaw, a fractured eyesocket and losing several teeth in the attack which off campus in Maynooth, Co Kildare.

She was attacked at the entrance to the Moyglare Abbey Estate after travelling from her home town near Castleblayney in Co Monaghan on a private bus on Sunday, November 20.

She was found on the pavement outside the estate at 8.30pm and her phone and bag, which contained her laptop, were not taken so robbery is thought to be unlikely as a motive.

It has now believed that a group of young women have been identified as suspects in relation to the horrific attack.

A source told the Independent: "Three young females are being investigated for the attack, and it is hoped that they will be interviewed in the coming days."
