Gardaí investigate Cork crash that claimed teenager's life

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road accident in Cork last night that claimed the life of a teenager.

Three other people were injured in the crash, one of them seriously.

Gardaí say the N71 between Rosscarbery and Skibbereen will remain closed until at least 8am today.

The accident happened about a mile outside Rosscarbery when a car and a van were involved in a head-on collision.

An 18-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and a second passenger in the car were taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries.

The van driver was also taken to CUH with minor injuries.

Diversions remain in place, while garda collision Investigators examine the scene.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the gardaí at Clonakilty.
