Gardaí in Dublin are investigating an incident last night in which armed officers engaged in a six-hour stand-off with a man threatening to harm himself.
The drama began at Swords Business Park at around 3.30pm, when the man apparently locked himself in his van, claimed to be armed with a gun and threatened to kill himself.
Reports this morning say members of the Emergency Response Unit used two stun grenades at around 9pm as part of an operation to overpower him.
However, he managed to inflict an injury on himself and was taken to hospital for treatment, where his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.
Nobody else was injured in the incident, but around 30 employees were not allowed to leave work as usual at 5pm due to fears for their safety.
They were eventually allowed to leave after the stand-off ended.
This morning’s reports say no gun was found at the scene, but the man was armed with a knife.
