Gardaí contacted after members of Ireland U-15 basketball team 'racially abused on Ask.fm'

Basketball Ireland says it has contacted the Gardaí over online racial abuse aimed at some underage international players.

The messages appeared on anonymous social media site Ask.fm and were targeted at members of the Ireland under-15 team.

Basketball Ireland president Gerard Kelly said that administrators of Ask.fm and the Gardaí have been contacted.

He added that Basketball Ireland are determined to unmask the people who posted the message.

The organisation said those responsible are cowards and that there is no room for discrimination in the sport.
