Gardaí arrest man in dissident republican investigation

Gardaí investigating dissident republican activity have arrested a man in Co Louth.

A Garda Special Detective Unit team and members of the Emergency Response Unit made the arrest after finding a firearm and ammunition in a car they stopped on the Dundalk to Ardee Road last night.

A 53-year-old man was arrested and is being detained at Dundalk Garda station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

During a follow-up search of a premises in Co. Louth, a firearm and stolen car were also recovered.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate.
