Gardaí arrest developer missing for eight months

Gardaí in Galway have arrested developer Kevin McGeever in connection with an ongoing investigation into his alleged abduction last year.

Mr McGeever was reported missing by his partner last May and turned up in a state of malnutrition and suffering from hypothermia in the Ballinamore area of Co Leitrim in late January this year.

He claimed he had been kidnapped at gunpoint from his home in Craughwell, Co Galway, kept in a container for eight months and subjected to regular beatings.

It is understood the 68-year-old was detained yesterday in the Galway area, and that gardaí believe his health had recovered sufficiently for him to answer questions about what happened to him.

It is further understood he is being questioned on suspicion of wasting garda time.
