Gardaí arrest armed man near post office

Gardai in Cork have intercepted a suspected armed raid on a post office in the east of the county.

A man in his 30s was arrested in Aghada last night after he was seen wearing a balaclava and carrying a firearm in the vicinity of the local post-office.

Gardaí in Midleton were alerted and backed up by members of the Regional Support Unit from Cork city they quickly moved in to disarm and arrest the suspect.

The man, who is from Cork city, is being questioned at Midleton Garda Station.
