10.50pm: Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to a road traffic incident in Dublin today after a garda was hit and injured by a car while on checkpoint duty.
Gardaí say that a silver 04 KE registered Volvo XC90 Jeep was involved in a number of incidents around the Macken Street and Grand Canal Street area.
The vehicle was missing its rear license plate, but failed to stop at a checkpoint, whereby the garda was dragged by this vehicle and injured.
Two people were subsequently arrested and remain in custody at Irishtown garda station.
A number of witnesses have contacted gardaí already, however, people who were on Macken Street, and who witnessed the incident, and tended to the injured garda are asked to come forward.
In addition, investigators are asking any member of the public who may have phone, dashcam or CCTV footage of this incident to contact gardaí. 1.45pm: A man and a woman have been arrested after a garda was hit and injured by a car while on checkpoint duty in Dublin.
The incident happened this morning at Baggot St bridge on the southside of the city.
The garda was on checkpoint duty at Baggot St Bridge in Dublin this morning when a 4x4 vehicle failed to stop.
The 4x4 hit the garda while driving past, causing leg and arm injuries and he has since been taken to hospital.
The vehicle continued on towards Waterloo Road where it crashed into a wall and the occupants fled the scene.
A man and a woman were later arrested and are being held at Irishtown Garda Station.
