Gardaí in Athlone are asking for the public's help to find an elderly Australian tourist.

85-year-old William Tyquin has been missing since Tuesday.

He hired a black Dublin registered Hyundai ix20 last weekend with the intention of travelling around Ireland. Its registration number is 12-D-22135.

William is 5'6", with grey hair.

When last seen he was wearing cream coloured trousers, a grey t-shirt and sandals.

Gardaí and family are very concerned for William and are appealing for anyone who may have seen him to contact any Garda station.
