Gang slashes man's stomach in Co Down

The PSNI are hunting a gang who slashed a 24-year-old man across the stomach during the night in Co Down.

The man was walking in Castlewellan Road with his girlfriend when three unknown men approached.

Officers said there was an exchange of words then one of the gang cut the man across the stomach with a sharp weapon, possibly a screwdriver.

The victim was treated in hospital but his injury was not life threatening.

The attackers, who fled the scene on foot, are all around 5ft 8in in height and wore dark clothing.

Police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
