The Department of Foreign Affairs is liaising with the family of a Galway woman, who has died in a tragic accident in Ghana.
It is understood that 24-year-old Natalie Higgins lost her life while swimming in the West African country.
She, and two other members of her group, got into difficulty.
The two others were saved but the young Galway woman lost her life and her body was later recovered.
Her parents were informed of the tragedy late last night.
Natalie had been carrying out voluntary work in an orphanage in the country.
