Five officers injured in Belfast city hall protest

Five police officers were injured after a protest outside Belfast City Hall turned violent last night.

The disturbances epupted after councillors voted to fly the Union flag over the building on just 15 designated days a year, instead of all year round.

Hundreds of police officers were deployed to the scene.

Two members of the force were hospitalised, while two members of the security staff at city hall were also hurt.

The PSNI says there are also reports that a press photographer was injured in the disturbances.
