Fishermen protest outside the Dáil

Fishermen angry over how economic conditions are effecting the sector have taken their concerns directly to the Dáil's front door today.

Scores of boat owners and crew members gathered on Dublin's Kildare street to draw attention to the difficulties being experienced in Ireland's ports.

Cork Airport is now to be targeted for a picket tomorrow, due to the high level of foreign fish cargo coming into the country through the Leeside terminal.

Today's gathering was addressed by Michael Walsh of the Federation of Irish Fishermen who called for special aid measures to help cushion the blow from rising fuel costs and international competition.
