First baby of year born in Mid West

Mums and dads across the country have been welcoming the first babies of 2013.

In Cork Christine Casey from Carrigtwohill gave birth to her little girl Lexi at 12:03, while the first Dublin baby of the New Year was born at the National Maternity Hospital on Holles Street - the little girl arrived at just 12 minutes past midnight.

But the first baby of 2013 was born at the Mid Western Regional Maternity Hospital in Limerick.

Baby boy Leo McNamara came into the world at just one minute past midnight.
