Firearm seized as gardaí arrest two men in Dundalk

Gardaí have arrested two males and seized a firearm as part of an ongoing investigation targeting dissident Republican activity, it has been revealed.

Gardaí attached to Garda Headquarters and local Garda units carried out a planned operation yesterday morning in the Dundalk area.

As part of the operation, a man aged in his 40s was arrested and a rifle was recovered when members of the Regional Support Unit stopped and searched a car on Point Road, Dundalk.

A second man, aged in his late 50s, was later arrested during a follow-up search at a house, also in the Dundalk area.

Both men are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Dundalk Garda Station, and enquiries are ongoing.
