FG to discuss Dutch-style healthcare model

The issue of health is set to top the agenda as the Fine Gael parliamentary party continues its annual think-in in Cavan today.

Delegates will be discussing proposals for a healthcare plan similar to one that currently operates in the Netherlands.

The Dutch system is ranked number one in Europe, with no waiting lists and free access to GPs.

The existing Irish system, meanwhile, is ranked 15th.

Elsewhere, the crisis in banking and the forthcoming legislation to establish NAMA will also be discussed today before the convention concludes at around lunchtime.
