Families arrive at Áras an Uachtaráin for tree-lighting ceremony

Hundreds of families have arrived at Áras an Uachtaráin this evening for the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

Each year, President and Sabina Higgins welcome families from all over the country to attend the event at the presidential residence in Dublin's Phoenix Park.

A spokesperson for the President says the Children are the real VIPs this evening with the Áras transformed into a winter wonderland with lights, toys and a special appearance by Santa.

President Higgins will address the families, after which the lights on the outdoor Christmas tree will be turned on.
