The number of patients waiting on wards and trolleys has fallen dramatically today.
Yesterday, 433 patients were waiting for a bed. Today, the number fell to 359.
A spokesperson for the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, which compiles the trolley and ward watch figures, said it was unclear why the number had more than halved.
Nurses are protesting outside Leinster House in Dublin this lunchtime to voice their anger at the ongoing problem of overcrowding and Health Minister Leo Varadkar is meeting with stakeholders this afternoon on the emergency department taskforce.
