€312m allocated for new social housing plan

Every local authority in the country is set to benefit from a new €312m social housing plan.

The Government has unveiled the latest phase of its housing strategy, worth a total of €4bn.

Some 1,700 new homes are set to be completed by 2017.

Speaking in Clonmel to Tipp FM, Environment Minister Alan Kelly said there will be further announcements in the months ahead.

"This is the first phase, so I expect to be announcing even more houses and housing developments in Tipperary and across the country in the coming months," said Minister Kelly.

"This is just the first phase of a €312m investment nationally, and €7m here in Tipperary which will create 70 jobs.

"We will be announcing further projects as they are assessed by my department in the coming months."
