End of an era as President signs Intoxicating Liquor Bill into law

President Michael D Higgins has signed the Intoxicating Liquor (Amendment) Bill into law.

This clears the way for pubs to open on Good Friday this year, ending a ban in place since 1927.

Many publicans had voiced frustrations over the restriction and called for it to be removed.

The Dáil debated the final stages of the bill last week.
