Elderly man threatened with axe during Co Down burglary

A man in his 80s is recovering this morning after being threatened with an axe during an overnight burglary at his home in Co Down.

Three men, one of whom was armed with the axe, entered the man's home in Newry at around 8pm last night before stealing an undisclosed sum of money.

The victim was not hurt during the incident, but was said to be extremely shocked.

The robbery was the latest in a string of similar raids targeting elderly people throughout the North in recent months and years.
