Eight Catholic deacons to be ordained in Dublin

Eight married men are to be ordained Catholic deacons in Dublin next month.

According to reports today, it means they will ll be allowed to baptise children and officiate at weddings.

The position of deacon gives them the power to do many of a priest's duties, apart from hearing confession and celebrating mass.

Several other dioceses around the country are preparing candidates for the job.
