Dissident republicans blamed for Derry shooting

Dissident republicans are being blamed for a so-called "punishment attack" on a 35-year-old man in Derry last night.

At least two masked men entered a bookmaker's shop in the city last night, ordered everyone to lie on the floor and then shot the victim, Sean Ryan, in both legs.

His sister says doctors feared at one point that he might lose one of his legs.

Local SDLP and Sinn Féin representatives have both condemned the shooting.
