Dempsey hints at possible bid for FF leadership

Transport Minister Noel Dempsey is refusing to rule himself out of the race to become the next leader of Fianna Fáil following Bertie Ahern's resignation.

Mr Dempsey says he will not be declaring his intention before this evening's meeting of the party's national executive to discuss the process of choosing a new leader.

However, he has admitted today that he does have ambitions to one day take over the job of Fianna Fáil leader and Taoiseach of the country.
