There has been a massive increase in planning approvals for homes in the second quarter of the year, according to the Central Statistics Office.

Approvals went up 87.4% when compared with the same period in 2014, to more than 3,000 dwelling units.

Permissions for houses went up by almost 77%, while apartment approvals soared by 227%, although from a relatively low base of 114 to 373.

The figures also show that one-off houses accounted for 27.3% of all new dwelling units granted planning permission in this quarter.
