Shoppers horrified as dead birds fall from sky in Carlow

Authorities in Carlow have launched an investigation into the poisoning of hundreds of wild birds in Carlow town at the weekend.

Local shoppers were said to have been horrified when at least 200 pigeons, sparrows and robins fell from the sky onto the town's main shopping street on Sunday.

Somebody is believed to have deliberately poisoned the birds by laying grain on the streets that had been soaked in Sleepy Crow, a substance used by farmers to control magpies and rats.
