CSO to reveal further rise in Live Register figures

The Central Statistics Office is expected to reveal another rise in the number of people signing on the dole when it releases its latest Live Register figures today.

The total number of people on the register reached an all-time high of almost 353,000 last month.

Job losses are still being announced on an almost daily basis, but today's increase is not expected to be of the same magnitude as those recorded in recent months.

The Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, has already admitted that the Live Register could rise to 450,000 by the end of the year.
