CSO reveals jump of almost 40% in robberies and hijackings

There was a 33.9% jump in robberies, hijackings and kidnappings in the second quarter of this year, according to figures from the Central Statistics Office.

A 52% rise in the number of recorded sexual offences is mainly due to a reclassification of crimes going back a number of years, the CSO said.

There were 13 recorded murder and manslaughter offences in the period, which is three fewer than in the same quarter last year.
