Cowen named Politician of Year at Magill Awards

Taoiseach-in-waiting Brian Cowen has been named Politician of the Year for 2007 at the annual Magill Awards.

The current Tánaiste and Minister for Finance was presented with the award at a function in Dublin last night.

Elsewhere, Fine Gael TD Brian Hayes was voted Campaigning Politician of the Year for his work on autism.

A Lifetime Achievement Award was also given to Charlie Haughey's press secretary, PJ Mara, while Brian Lenihan was named Minister of the year and Joan Burton TD of the Year.

The Survivor of the Year award went to Bertie Ahern and Labour TD Sean Sherlock picked up the One to Watch Award.
