Consultants at Cork University Hospital have reportedly come out in support of a colleague who raised concerns about conditions at the hospital earlier this week.
A surgeon at the hospital raised serious concerns in a leaked email to his manager.
He revealed how a woman who had a breast removed had to lie on a trolley without any morphine, while an elderly woman had to wait five hours for an emergency amputation of her arm.
He also questioned whether CUH would be able to deal with a planned increase in breast cancer patients.
The hospital says the surgeon's claims are incorrect, but his fellow consultants held a meeting last night at which they publicly backed his comments.
