Census finds that 83% of rail journeys are taken in Dublin

Around 123,500 rail journeys on 660 services were taken on November 14, 2013, according to the National Transport Authority.

Nearly half of all train journeys took place on the DART in Dublin which has nine of the top 10 busiest stations.

Cork's Kent station is the only station in the country to feature in the top ten, it is number six, with all the other stations in the Greater Dublin Area.

The figures, from the National Transport Authority, show 83% of all trips are taken in greater Dublin.

The busiest train in the country on the day of the Census - with 1,444 passengers - was the 8am DART from Greystones to Malahide.
