A meeting between the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan and the Public Accounts Committee will get underway this morning where issues like cuts to garda staffing and resources will be discussed.
The issue has been an ongoing source of tension between rank and file officers, Callinan and the Minister for Justice Alan Shatter for some time.
Also up for discussion is the collection of road tax. It is estimated that nearly €55m of it goes unpaid each year.
John McGuinness, chairman of the PAC, says it is one of the issues they are hoping to resolve.
"The members of the committee have to determine how this happens, particularly when there are three different government agencies involved in the collection.
"This also gives us the opportunity to look at the garda accounts for 2011 and 2012 to determine whether they are running within budget and see what the projected outcome is for the end of this year."
