Boat in distress off the coast of Kerry

Rescue services are trying to help a yacht in distress off the Blasket islands.

A crew of six french people are on board.

It is reported that the yacht lost its mast at high seas and in gale force conditions.

Presently, the Valencia lifeboat and a Shannon-based helicopter are on their way to help the crew off the Kerry coast.

The coastguard service are worried that the boat is drifting close to the island.

However, they think that they may be able to tow it away.
