Bloggers are being blamed for growing distrust in dairy

Update 10.27am: Bloggers are being blamed for a growing distrust in dairy.

The National Dairy Council claims people in their 20s are worried by posts they see about the health effects of consuming milk products.

Its latest study shows 41% of Irish women and 30% of men are limiting or avoiding dairy.

The dairy council's Zoe Kavanagh thinks it is the fault of online information.

She said: "Social media channels - that is where they get their information when it comes to diet because they want to make smart choices but what they have told us is that they are very confused because they are getting mixed messages.

"To sum it up, image Trump's science."

The National Dairy Council is warning people off drinking almond milk.

41% of Irish women and 30% of men are limiting or avoiding dairy.

With 10% believing it is actually bad for their health.

But the dairy council's Zoe Kavanagh says that is untrue.

She said: "Have you tried to milk an almond?

"Let's crush up some nuts, mix them with water, mix them with emulsifiers and stablisers - you've got at least 12 ingredients going on there.

"Nothing there will match the one pure ingredient in milk."
