Biker killed in Westmeath crash

A motorcyclist has been killed in a road crash in Co Westmeath.

The accident happened at around 5.30pm this evening when a car and motorbike collided on the N52 at the junction with Ballinlough Castle between Delvin and Clonmellon.

A 29 -year-old man - the rider of the bike - was taken to Mullingar General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The male driver of the car - the sole occupant - escaped uninjured.

The road has been closed at the scene for a forensic examination.
