Ban on hospital clamping among Oireachtas Committee proposals

An end to unregulated clamping has come a step closer today after an Oireachtas Committee made 38 recommendations to Transport Minister Leo Varadkar.

A ban on clamping in hospitals and fully regulating all operators whether they clamp on public or private property are among the proposals.

The Committee said that there is no reason the new measures cannot be in place by the end of the year.

It would outlaw 'cowboy' operations, making it a criminal offence to employ a clamping company that isn't actually licensed, that isn't Garda vetted, that isn't tax compliant, and that isn't regulated."
